I don't do ill…

I’m finally over it.  I am.  I most definitely am.
Folks, I don’t do ill.  Many of you out there will feel the same about sickness, being ill, being under the weather and contracting any “lurgy”.  That all belongs to someone else and I’m never ill.  We also (I’m guilty of this) have little time for those around us who are sick.  Shame.
There’s just too much to do and never enough time to complete everything so you can’t afford to be ill.  You don’t want to be ill.  You can’t afford the time off sick and you really don’t want to let that lurgy break down your defenses.
But sometimes you just have to give in.  On Friday 4th Jan’ someone said to me “listen to your body”.  I binned the comment but somehow it rang in my ears and it certainly kept coming back through my mind.  Darn it!
By Sunday 6th I knew I was doomed.  I caved in.  I cancelled all appointments – something I never do.  I succumbed.  I was in bed by 8pm.  Listening to my body.  That wasn’t a restful night but I’ll spare you the details.  Needless to say I’m so glad I didn’t crawl out of bed at 5am to catch the 7am flight to Manchester.  I slept 24 hours over the next 48 hours.
And so for the last week – we’ll make this brief – I’ve listened to my body.  I’ve truly rested.  When I did have to be “on duty” I dragged myself out of bed, dragged myself and the dog on essential walks, silently taxied my lovely girls here there and everywhere, dragged myself into the kitchen to prep’ something edible and then dragged myself off the sofa and up to bed – for a week.  Not nice but essential repair time.
And, if you work with a great team as I do, they’ll give you the time and space to repair.  Thanks team.
Listen to your body this New Year.
