What you can and cannot train your team to do

Here’s what you can train people to do:

Technique

So if you want me to train your people – that’s fine – just tell me what technique you want them to master and I’ll show up – or I’ll refer you to a master-trainer in any areas I don’t cover.

(I train people to become masters at financial modelling, internal marketing, leadership, management, customer service, personal organisation and strategic thinking)

Here’s what you cannot train people to do:

Drive

Initiative

Loyalty

Determination

Ambition

Optimism

Positivity

If you want me to train your people to have any of the attributes on that list – sorry in advance – my advice will be to replace them.

How do you build a team with the second list of attributes?

  1. Show genuine appreciation
  2. Pay well
  3. Provide a career pathway
  4. Have some fun
  5. Kiss a lot of frogs
  6. Fail fast.
