Race across America

I’m very impressed with Damian Bourke from the Orthodontic Centre who is currently doing the gruelling cycling Race Across America (RAAM) with a team of 8, including Andy Watson and Stewart Loben from Strategic Team Groups “Strategic Lions Cycling Team”.
RAAM is 30% longer than the Tour de France with a route stretching over 3000 miles. Starting in California and ending in Maryland, the riders will touch 14 states and climb over 100,000 feet. Teams typically cross the country in 6 to 9 days; averaging 350 to over 500 miles per day. The current team record stands at 5 days 9 hours, which our team is hoping to beat. Teams have a relay format and race 24 hours a day – in RAAM, once the clock starts on the west coast, it doesn’t stop until each racer reaches the finish line on the east coast.
The race is funded by Strategic Team Group in association with Team Sportscover Altura. Each rider is being provided with team kit by Altura and Aszure Team Issue race bikes and full support of product from the race team including; Oakley, PowerBar, Bryton, Lupine, Giro and Shimano all supplied through BBM Bikes of Knottingley. This means every penny you sponsor goes directly to charity and is not funding a ‘holiday’ for the riders.
Donating through this page is simple, quick and secure. It is the most efficient way to give – so every donation goes further – and if you are a UK taxpayer and give Gift Aid consent the charity will receive an extra 28% at no cost to you.
The Strategic Lions are doing really well in the leaderboard and I wish them and Damian the very best!
