Leadership example 1: DBC clients, Ollie and Darsh

The Ollie & Darsh team of Daz Singh, Sudarsh Naidoo and Suzy Gorman, are DBC Mastermind clients. The practice has been nominated for three 2010 Private Dentistry Awards in the following categories: most attractive practice, best marketing and best new practice.

They recently answered some questions about their nominations, and this is what they said.

What does it mean to you and your team to be on the nomination list?

It’s a huge achievement to be nominated for The Private Dentistry Awards for the second year running, last year we were nominated for 3 awards and this year we are up for 3 awards again. Ollie and Darsh is still a new business and we all feel it’s truly deserved to receive such recognition for our continuous hard work. There are some inspirational people here at the clinic trying to change lives for the better and giving people confidence. Being short listed for 3 awards has been extraordinary. Last year it gave us all the most wonderful reason to celebrate with our clients, everyone is delighted to be nominated again. It has given us all a fantastic lift as winning an award is an endorsement of the hard work that goes on here and of course, it also raises our profile.

What particular achievement in your team/practice/business this year are you most proud of?

We are most proud of the growth within the business, as in November 2008 we had no clients on our database and in just under two years we have had 7,000 clients walk through our doors. Ollie and Darsh started to offer Invisalign in September 2009 and it took just 6 months to become a ‘Platinum Elite’ clinic. This growth has meant that after just 15 months we expanded our business validating, Ollie and Darsh’s business start-up ideas and their subsequent efforts to bring their vision to fruition.

Such success has dictated the need to recruit more staff, which has helped the local employment levels too, therefore giving something back to the community. And of course winning Most Attractive Practice in the UK 2009 was very special, the staff feel valued and extremely proud. There are testimonial books displayed on both floors of the clinic which have the most amazing comments written in them and by being acknowledged in such a public way makes us all feels so positive.

What have been the best tools, advice or ideas for your practice that you’ve gained from your time spent with the Dental Business Club?

Growth also brings with it a variety of changes in the clinic’s structure, needs, and objectives. Given these realities, Chris Barrow’s advice and ideas have helped the leaders of Ollie and Darsh realise the need to understand that meaningful, long-term, profitable growth is a by-product of effective management and planning. During our website redesign, Chris introduced us to Guy Levine to manage our website and complete our SEO, this, as well as his financial forecasts and Average Daily Yields have helped us to control and monitor our level of productivity which has made the investment we chose to make with Chris worthwhile.
