The Campbell Academy Business Course – a guest post by Colin Campbell

The Business Course Part 1

At the Campbell Academy, we run a Business Course that we call TBOB (The Business of Business) it’s just a nickname for the course that we started in February.

If you want to know what it looks like here is link to the video. It’s really good, try and watch it here now if you have 2 minutes:

If you have watched the video listen to what Chris Barrow says in it because he absolutely nails what the course is about. It came to life this course with a conversation on a sunny patio with Gary Marvin, the Sales Director for Straumann, last August.

When I started to deliver the first module in February 2017 (just days after I came back from 7 weeks off work) I was excited and I hoped it would work (never did I believe how good it would be).

The course is run so well because of the delegates who attend. The delegates are so committed to making this work and making their practices better. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy.

In February, we did an explanation of everyone’s practices, we used some really cool online stuff where people submitted blogs before they attended the course and were able to talk to each other on our online discussion platform. They also received all the reading material 6 weeks before the course started. The difference in profile of peoples’ practices and the difference in their views of how to do business have been so constructive and creative that I think everybody is walking away from this course with a huge amount of benefit to drive their practice forwards. There is no question that people’s practices have grown through the experience they have had and we have only just completed module 4 out of 6. The modules are two days and there are 6 of them. The speakers are extensive and varied throughout the course, the subjects include:

  • You don’t know what you don’t know
  • Detailed financial aspects of a dental practice business
  • Marketing and all it entails
  • HR and team building in a modern independent practice together with non-financial monitoring
  • Strategic planning and personal leadership
  • Everything else, pulling together everything that people have learned during the course.

People will leave the course in a few weeks’ time with a full three-year strategic plan to push their business forwards. I promise that everyone’s will work because they have put so much into this and will continue to do so.

What is fascinating about this is that very early on into the course the delegates were asking what we would do next year and would we meet up again. This was never part of the business plan it’s just what happens when you put a group of people together that become friends and who are invested in each other’s success.

Warning, the course is not cheap, it takes a huge amount of investment financially and in time but to have a successful dental practice in the modern world takes a huge amount of investment in finance and in time. If you are interested in the course and you sign up, you will make your money back at least within the first year because of the improvements you make to your practice.

We have a lot of leads now for next year and we think this might be full by the end of September. I’m kind of hoping that I won’t have to blog out about it again because we will already have the delegates in place. If you are interested then please get in touch with us below.
