Part of the new work routine for 2011 is the addition of a complete week in Cornwall to work “on” my business instead of working “in” my business.
I have 10 such weeks scheduled through the year ahead.
The big picture is to take a rest from travel and delivery – and to just pause, think about where I have been, where I am and where I want to go next – and I’m sure that will extend to my personal as well as professional life.
For the fee-earners amongst you – yes – that does mean 10 weeks in which I will NOT be generating income for the business directly.
I have been steadily amassing a “to do” list for the week, which has 30 items as I write, ranging from the mundane (take overcoats and suits to the dry cleaners, take car in for service, get picture framed) through the important (clear hard disk, look at CRM software) to the hugely important (conversations about future business projects with private equity firms).
There will also be a number of conversations with Team CB to discuss up and coming initiatives to grow The Dental Business Club and add value to our offer to clients.
I’m currently anticipating the luxury of 5 days ahead with no travel, no unpacking and packing suitcases, no hotel food and, not least, the companionship of Annie in the evenings!
A chance to catch up on a bit of marathon training without running at 06:00 in the dark.
An opportunity to re-connect with myself after a whirlwind start to the year.
