Author: Chris Barrow

Chris Barrow has been active as a consultant, trainer and coach to the UK dental profession for over 20 years. As a writer, his blog enjoys a strong following and he is a regular contributor to the dental press. Naturally direct, assertive and determined, he has the ability to reach conclusions quickly, as well as the sharp reflexes and lightness of touch to innovate, change tack and push boundaries. In 2014 he appeared as a “castaway” in the first season of the popular reality TV show “The Island with Bear Grylls”. His main professional focus is as Coach Barrow, providing coaching and mentorship to independent dentistry.

We are taking our first break at 11.15am after listening to the 29 delegates introduce themselves. A diverse group of UK dental principals who have invested 2 days in a meeting with no agenda and no advance preparation. That takes courage on their part and nerve on mine.

By the way, before I start, if you read yesterday’s post about my run in with the phone company – it transpires that the bill had been paid and their administration screwed up. Phone now back on thanks to Bonnie and some calls to O2 – who asked her for her post code first! Back

I’m beginning to understand that one of the many uses of a blog, whether business or personal, is a brain dump – not only for good ideas and interesting experiences – but also for events that drive you absolutely crazy. Let me share with you some highlights of my day so far (it’s now just

Apart from being sick to death of speaking to people on the Indian sub-continent (makes a change from Poland I suppose) – I get a message on my mobile phone this morning asking me to call “Maria” on a London telephone number – no explanation of the purpose of the call – maybe she wants

Sometimes I wake very early and my head is so full of stuff that I liken the feeling to pushing closed an air-lock door in a leaking submarine. If I can get the door closed and keep out the flood of thoughts on the other side, then there is a fair chance of getting back

As you can see from my current reading list, I’m enjoying “Naked Conversations” at the moment, an excellent history of the development of blogging and it’s application to marketing and customer relationships. Many of the quite amazing stories in the book relate to the speed with which ideas (and software) can spread, once people are

It’s my 53rd birthday today – and as part of my celebrations I popped in to see my hairdresser yesterday for a post-holiday scalping. I’ve written and spoken about Ross Jackson before – impressed that he had the courage to buy a Tony & Guy franchise (in Falmouth) at the age of 22 (with a

A brief moment of e-craziness during a meeting today (I must have been wandering) when I looked at how many emails I write and send. The current answer is that I am averaging 7,000 per annum. I’m just interested to know whether that’s a lot more or less than anyone else?
