I’m frequently contacted by people who have products and services of relevance to my clients. For over 20+ years I have maintained a policy that I do not accept introducers fees or commissions – I simply broadcast and comment on good ideas.
The CALCIVIS® imaging system is a recent breakthrough in the early detection of active demineralisation associated with caries and dental erosion. Created and designed by UK dental biologic and device manufacturer, CALCIVIS, its sole purpose is to improve preventive dentistry and support the minimally invasive approach.
At the centre of the CALCIVIS imaging system is a luminescent (light emitting) photoprotein, which reacts to the presence of free calcium ions released by actively demineralising tooth surfaces. It is a first for dentistry but is comparable to the bioluminescence that is observed by certain marine organisms, glow-worms and fireflies in the wild. Unique to the CALCIVIS imaging system, the resulting luminescence occurs only in the presence of free calcium ions (bound calcium in sound enamel does not generate a light signal).
The imaging device scans the surface of the tooth after delivering a defined application of the CALCIVIS photoprotein. A specialised sensor incorporated in the device immediately detects the resulting luminescence or light flash and in just one second a visual map of active demineralisation is displayed at the chair-side. This can then be viewed by the clinician and most importantly, discussed with the patient, but also, an action plan can be put in place straight away to address the problem at the earliest, most reversible stages.
The CALCIVIS imaging system delivers personalised patient information in an interesting and engaging manner. It is a valuable communication and learning tool to help patients understand their oral health status more readily, realise the reasons for preventive measures and the importance of compliance.
At the forefront of preventive dentistry innovation, the CALCIVIS imaging system offers the very latest technology and ensures that your patients are served to the very best of your ability.
