Retail dentistry opportunity

Those of you who faithfully follow my social media and other broadcast updates will recall that I’ve been very excited in recent weeks about the new retail dental business I’m involved with.

To clarify, I’m still “CoachBarrow” and still working with independent clients (plenty of them as well – thank you) and we are still heavily involved in the launch of The Dental Business School and regional workshops from October.

You can read all about my coaching activities on the web site at www.coachbarrow.com.

In this post I do want to return to the retail opportunity, to reveal a little more information and update you on progress. I’ll then end with a request for help.

The business plan we are proposing is completely unique in UK dentistry. It has never been done before and everyone who looks at it (including a main clearing bank and some of the top suppliers) have universally told us that we have a winner on our hands.
Yes – we intend to offer affordable, private-only, family and individual dentistry inside one of the UK’s biggest retailers.
Yes – we will be guaranteed a huge and regular footfall and the engagement and support of the parent company.
Yes – we have the capacity to create a new private practice on financial terms that you could not hope to copy replicate on your own.
Yes – we will kit out the practices to a high specification.

Here’s what is different – we are offering a unique commercial arrangment (no – its not a franchise) to our successful candidates which cannot be matched in the marketplace, as well as support from a management services company that features experienced people from both retail, technology, business and dental sectors. We have identified 6 locations in which we will be operating Phase 1 of the business model and my previous broadcasts were a general invitation to dentists who were looking at a first step on the ownership ladder to contact us.

I am delighted to say that our first round of promotion brought more enquiries then we were expecting and, without wishing to sound like The Apprentice panel, we have concluded our first round of meetings and have a short-list of potential candidates.

For me personally, it has been inspirational to meet a diverse range of young dentists who share a desire for a bigger future – I’m very much looking forward to working with them. We have much to do – financial underwriting, building practices (!), legals, accountancy, pre-opening marketing – the list goes on. You will see our new business visible in the public arena in the Autumn.
Now – my request for help.
There is one remaining location for which we have not yet identified the right person.
I’m looking for someone who would be prepared to work in the West Sussex area.

If you know of a young dentist who would be interested in joining our growing team of dental partners, please ask them to email Phillippa at phillippa@coachbarrow.com with a CV.

You would have to be a recluse not to know that I’m disappearing to Kilimanjaro over the next few weeks, so Phillippa will pass your enquiries on to my business partners.

I’ll be back early September and looking forward to an exciting end to the year.
