Holiday Reads 2

DominionDominion by C.J. Sansom
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

One of my favourite reads for 2013.

The storyline is a “39 steps” ripping yarn of spies and resistance – whacks along at a great pace.

More absorbing is Sansom’s speculations as to the make-up of a post-war, fascist influenced Britain, after signing a peace treaty with Germany in 1940.

An excellent investigation into what might have happened.

Don’t miss the historical note at the very end of the book, an impassioned and deadly honest plea for a “no” vote in the Scottish Independence debate and an essay on the dangers of nationalism.

Rarely does a novel educate, inform and entertain in the way this one has.
